Chanung School, Manipur I
Built up Area: 2000 sq.m / 21527.82 sq.ft
UNACCO School Chanung is envisioned to be a marvel of a school spread across 150 acres, making it the largest sports residential school complex in India. The school site is situated between the foot of two hills on either sides.
The design of the school academic building had to be resilient with the challenging context such as soil bearing capacity, earthquake zone 5, etc. On completion, the building will serve 750 students with state-of-the-art amenities like a library, computer lab, music rooms, etc.
We have retained the catchment areas and water bodies and have redeveloped them. We have also left the natural terrain intact.
The UNACCO School could be segregated in to three distinct parts
· Sports stadiums - private
· Residential school - private
· Hockey park - public
We have made the entire school campus vehicle-free and completely pedestrian oriented. Vehicles are restricted to the periphery of the campus.
There is a huge vegetative buffer between the external road and the internal road to creating privacy for the campus.
There is a controlled passage that is at the shortest possible distance that goes through the school campus to access the cricket and football field, the access to this passage is controlled.
Once you cross the entrance gate, the admin building is the first interaction point. The academic building and the assembly ground are behind the admin building. The academic building is centrally located with the boys' and the girls' hostel at the far ends of either side of the academic building.
The boys and girls are located at the far ends to create a separation of living spaces for the boys and girls and provide privacy to both.
Each of the hostels has two separate basketball courts, a tennis court, and its own dining areas.
The courts are directly in front of the hostel buildings so that the court activities are visible to the residents of the hostel.
The girls' hostel has a clear view of the hills, such as the positioning of the girls' hostel.
All the facilities like an infirmary, swimming pool, and multi-purpose hall are located centrally as well for easy access from the girls' and boys' hostel, the multipurpose hall and the swimming pool complex block the direct view of the girls' and boys' hostel respectively from the entry point, this was done as per the client’s request.
All the sports facilities are to international standards.
The road running around the campus has restricted access and there are secondary gates. The staff quarters are placed near the secondary gates on either side and provide a sense of security as any outsider if they have wandered into the campus will first encounter the staff quarters much before they could even reach the boys' or girls' hostels.
The Hockey park is open to the public and it consists of a kids’ play area and retained and redeveloped water body. There are watch towers in the southeast corner of the park for the public to view the beautiful landscape all around.
